Meleagris Gallopavo,... North American Wild Turkey. However to be precise in this drawing, it is actually a Tom and a Hen (hopefully the hen does not look too much like a chicken). This is a commissioned work for a Judge in an office of the county and was commissioned by the clerks in that office for the Judges birthday. Please note; This is not a comment on the Judge but rather in remembrance that he is an avid Turkey hunter.
The Wild Turkey is native to North America and is the largest in its (species) order. An adult male is called a Tom while a juvenile is a Jake,.. amongst other things the telltale parts that make it a Tom are the length of the "beard" and the structure of the central "tail" feathers.
Drawn on 11" x 14" white 100lbs smooth paper, using 2B and mechanical pencils (0.5, 0.7 and 0.9 mm) as well as various erasers and blending tools. (graphite, charcoal and carbon). NOTE: the over lap past the determined borders is my minor homage to 'trop l'oeil'- still my favorite style/theme.
